After a bit of a lie-in this morning, Shaz, our host and I ventured out of the apartment to the mall.
Our host schooled us on an interesting of Luxembourgish society: they love their malls.
This mall on the west side of the city has a distinctly American feel. We had a pretty fancy lunch at an open air restaurant in the mall courtyard before hitting the grocery store.
The grocery store lives in the mall.
Inside the grocery store, we saw the following delights:
Luxembourg shares a border with Germany and even though the grocery store was on the French side, these people take their pretzels very seriously. Notice the awesome packaging!
We did not purchase these.
These potato chips look so disgusting I am not sure if I am impressed or horrified.
We did not purchase these.
We were intrigued by what the Luxembourgish thought Boston says to them if cream cheese and spinach are the marquee ingredients of the Boston pizza.
We did purchase this.

In case you are ever traveling in this part of the world and are in search of scallops, don't look for a direct translation of scallops. Instead, look for noix de Saint-Jacques. Literal translation = St. Jack's nuts. No, get your heads out of the gutter! This is not a dirty reference.
We did not purchase them.
When we hauled everything home, this is what our purchases looked like:
Yes, we purchased all of these. We laid them out all pretty to help us remember what we bought so they didn't get shoved in the cupboard and forgotten.
My lesson for today is that travel adventures are not necessarily about the big, impressive, historical sites. It's about the people that live near those site and what they eat at home.
